In 2013 along with the festival we launched our passport to Airlie Battle of the bands competition. Since it's beginning it has grown from 8 competitions throughout Queensland in Cairns, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Cost. In 2014 Newcastle was added, In 2015 Tamworth and Melbourne came on board. In 2017 we are proud to add Toowoomba, Nimbin, Adelaide and Darwin making the passport to Airlie beach the biggest battle of the Bands competition in Australia.
In the past 4 years over 400 bands have taken part in our battles to win their way to Airlie beach. This year Battles will run between July and October. The winning band in each region will:
Be added to the line up at Airlie Beach Festival of Music 2017 playing in various venues throughout town,
Battle it out with the winners of other regions to come back in 2018 for a spot on the main stage!

The Airlie Beach Festival of Music is now in its 5th year and is fast becoming one of the countries most popular boutique music festivals.
The main marquee is set on the edge of the Coral Sea at the Whitsunday sailing club and we have another 16 venues in beautiful down town Airlie Beach. ( 1 day or 3 day ABFoM passes are required to enter any of our ticketed venues :)
On the Thursday afternoon at 4pm we kick off at the Main beach and have an acoustic jam, then at 6pm the open mic jam session starts at Beaches back packers bar just to get everyone warmed up, free to anyone that has an armband.
10am Friday and Saturday there's music all over town in our venues until 3pm when the main tent starts, showcasing some of the best talent from all over the world and wraps up around 10pm! There are many venues with live music playing after 10pm around town.
Sunday kicks off at 10am again in the venues and the main tent from 12 noon to 7pm , then back to the street.
